Annual Meeting

The 2006
DCAFS Annual Meeting was held February 27 - March 1, 2006 at Cedar Shore
Resort, SD. There were 32 total paper
presentations - 14 professional and 18 student along with 10 posters - 7
student and 3 professional presented at the meeting. The meeting got underway with early
registration on Monday 1:00pm. The EXCOM
meeting took place at 3:30-5:30pm. The
Monday evening social began at 6:00pm in the prefunction area overlooking
beautiful Lake Francis Case. Kegs of
beer and hors d’oeuvre were available throughout the evening. The Monday evening social activities included
photo judging contest, lasershot hunting
demonstration, and student raffle ticket sales.
The Tuesday program began at 8:00 am with opening remarks by DCAFS
President John Lott followed by Director Doug Hansen of the South Dakota
Department of Game, Fish and Parks.
Refreshments and cookies were served at all of the breaks throughout the
meeting. Soup, sandwiches, and salads
were catered for lunch. Brad Parsons,
President of the NCD, was the noon speaker.
Brad provided information on the direction that the division is moving
along with the goals they have set. After
lunch, the genetic session kicked off the afternoon paper presentations
followed by the poster session. The
DCAFS annual business meeting convened at 3:30pm and concluded approximately
5:00 pm. Social hour started at 6:00 pm
and the banquet started at 7:00 pm with a roast beef dinner with all the
fixings. Guest speaker Dean Hildebrand,
recently retired director of the North Dakota Fish and Game, provided words of
wisdom for upcoming fishery professionals to take to heart. President John Lott then presented the Annual
Awards and Mike Barnes announced the winners of the photo contest. The student raffle followed concluding the
evening program. Wednesday morning
presentations got underway at 8:00 am and concluded at noon following the
announcement of the Best Student Paper award was presented to Casey
Schoenebeck, the Best Professional Paper Award presented to Brian Blackwell and
the Best Poster Award presented to
